We will be using various techniques to maximise the behaviour of the light. Backlighting is one of my favourites and can be used for portraiture or nature. Bokeh is Japanese for blur but is a term used for soft out of focus balls of light which can look very pleasing. Burst in this case is star burst which can be achieved when you have strong areas of light and a correct choice of aperture. Use all three to create some amazing compositions.

I had never used 'exposure compensation' - this was especially useful. The host/convenor was very helpful and welcoming and made a positive difference. 2 hours was a good length for me. G

I love chasing and hoping for the pinky red hues after the sun has set. After many tries, you do build up some experience by observing the conditions if it might eventuate. Of course, there have been many times nature had other plans. On this occasion, it was on! This shot was taken in the opposite direction of the actual sunset. Always remind yourself to observe and look in all directions, cause you never know what's happening behind you! Snuck the moon in the shot too!

Title or Location: Melbourne Central R.M Williems Towers
This historic building was saved from demolition in 1973 and became part of Melbourne Central complex in 1991. Im only a hobbyist photographer so I like looking at a lot of photos take by other people. They inspired and encouraged me to look at shapes, lines and spaces. There was a photographer that took photos of Melbourne Central as well that took the tower at a different angle, so I kind of derived my photo from there.

The sun was setting as I took this image of the derelict wharf at Princes Pier. The hardwood pylons, standing like a rank and file of sentinels - are all that is left of the old pier. Nevertheless the spot is a haven for fishermen, skateboarders and paddle boarders. I took the shot with a Sony a6700 and Sigma 18-50mm lens. I used an ND1000 (neutral density) filter so I could get a long exposure of 25 seconds.
